Mixing CBD with Your Beverages

Our endocannabinoid system (ECS) plays a role in many of the body’s systems and processes. This includes metabolism, immunity, and the central and peripheral nervous systems. The body produces cannabinoids which are received by cannabinoid receptors in order to keep the body functioning normally.

Cannabis has been used for centuries due to its beneficial properties. most commonly credited for: pain relief, reduced anxiety or feelings of depression, less inflammation or nausea, improved heart health, and better focus or sleep.

Recently, CBD has been taken as an effective supplement for many people. Adding our tinctures, gummies, or softgels may provide the desired results for your daily needs.

In 2018, The Farm Bill legalized hemp-derived CBD and analysts predict the industry will reach $20 billion in the United States by 2025. Currently, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not regulate the use of CBD, nor do they provide recommendations for dosages.

One common question is, “Can I add CBD into my wellness routine in combination with caffeine or alcohol?”

In short, the answer is yes, but a greater amount of research needs to be conducted in this area to examine the long term impacts.

Let’s look at the two separately. If you are a person who enjoys your morning coffee or a few drinks at the end of a long day, you are not alone. It has been reported that nearly 90% of adults in the United States consume caffeine, and over 50% of adults drink alcohol.

Caffeine is a naturally occurring central nervous system (CNS) stimulant of the methylxanthine class. It is the most widely taken psychoactive stimulant globally. This drug is commonly sourced from the coffee bean, and can also be found naturally in certain types of tea or cacao beans. It is also an additive  used in soda and energy drinks. The primary reason cited for caffeine consumption is to combat fatigue or drowsiness, and there are many other uses of the stimulant.

Caffeine produces some unwanted side effects such as jitters, moodiness, and insomnia. Incorporating CBD may alleviate some of these effects while enhancing the benefits of focus or relaxation. Many people who prefer the method of micro dosing find adding CBD to their beverages to be effective.

A fair warning, oil and water do not usually mix leaving oils to float on top, and directly placing CBD into a hot beverage may negate the desired results of the user.

This brings us to the second part of this conversation; alcohol and CBD use.

Alcohol or its chemical name ethanol, is a drug, and is classified as a Central Nervous System (CNS) depressant. This means consuming alcohol slows down brain functioning, neural activity, and further reduces the functioning of various vital functions in our body. It is the active ingredient in fermented drinks such as beer, wine, and distilled liquor. In small quantities, alcohol has proven to have stimulating effects depending upon the intake rate. A common reason for consuming alcohol is to take the”edge-off” and relax.

Both alcohol and CBD have been utilized for reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation. The two in combination may amplify the sense of drowsiness or impairment which many users have noted feeling from the use of either one independently.

It would be best to avoid operating machinery, equipment, or vehicles while experiencing any of the aforementioned conditions.

Prior to any life change regarding your health, please consult a physician or trusted medical professional to discuss all concerns. When selecting CBD products, do some research, and choose a quality source by examining the product’s COA(Certificate of Analysis) to ensure that it has been tested for purity, and is free of THC or harmful contaminants.
